Santa Fe

(On a whim) My boyfriend and I decided to meet up in Santa Fe for a long weekend. A while ago SWA had a birthday ticket sale, so we decided to meet somewhere semi-mid-country. He lives in Pennsylvania (where I'm from) and I'm in California, so we picked New Mexico. Not really sure what our logic was at the time.

Anyway, it was a pretty interesting place. Although the average age seemed to be somewhere near 45, we still had fun. We weren't exactly looking for some crazy party scene or anything like that. We just wanted a cool place to meet up and be with each other.

The atmosphere was so different. So much adobe, Indian art galleries, Mexican food, and cheap prices. Yeah, CHEAP. An all day bus pass (like, unlimited bus rides) was only 2 dollars. I also had to work on my architecture project while I was there, so we had to stop by an art supply store. In a place very Blick-esque I bought museum board (average price here for one sheet: $10) and it was only $2.50.

Maybe I understand the bus price, since Santa Fe isn't exactly set up for pedestrians. From our Hostel, the walk into downtown Santa Fe wasn't very nice. The sidewalk (when it even existed) usually had obstacles, like telephone poles or electrical boxes right in the middle of it. Sometimes we were the only people walking for miles. The only people who ever passed us were either homeless or crazy. Sometimes both. It's definitely a car kind of town.

Regardless, it was still great. Walking around and taking in the adobe, dried chilies, mountains, dream catchers, blah blah blah, it was all in a strange way romantic and exciting. The fact that our days ended when the sun went down didn't seem to bother us. We would just grab a bottle of wine on the lonely walk back and sit on the patio in front of our Hostel, talking about how strange Santa Fe was, but how for some reason we still really liked it.
